Ankit Mehta MD, FAANS, FACS

Dr. Ankit Indravadan Mehta is an American Board of Neurological Surgeons board-certified neurosurgeon who practices in the Department of Neurosurgery at UI Health. Dr. Mehta specializes in the surgical treatment of complex spinal conditions, including spinal tumors and degenerative spine diseases. As the director of Spinal Oncology, Dr. Mehta leads a laboratory specifically examining animal models of spinal tumors, both primary and metastatic, to apply his findings to new treatments for patients; in addition, he leads a team focusing on spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury. Dr. Mehta's research efforts focus on patients with complex spinal conditions, most notably spinal tumors and spinal deformity, and his involvement with national and international study groups examining outcomes for patients with such conditions reflects his focus on patient care and his clinical concentration on treating patients with spinal tumors. His contributions have earned him numerous awards, including the 21st Century Research Grant from the Cervical Spine Research Society and the journal Spine's Young Investigator of the Year Award, among others. Dr. Mehta was recognized by the North American Spine Society's "20 Under 40" Leaders in Spine list, and he received a Rising Star Award from the UIC College of Medicine. He is fellowship trained in enfolded stereotactic radiosurgery, complex spine surgery, and spinal oncology, and he has published more than 160 peer-reviewed articles, 7 book chapters, and has presented his research at numerous national conferences.
